I remember when I first heard of the "Galway clubbing to death of Spaniards" incident. I was in a bar, and one of my IRA supporting friends shouted out "Ole" or such and such.
A similar incident, happened in Kinnego Bay in Donegal, when a Spanish galleon, sank. The survivors had managed to walk some 20 kms, reaching the outskirts of Derry City, where they were massacred.
On a positive note, Spanish sailors who sank off Owey Island,a sparcely populated isle off Donegal, are said to have lived and ingratiated themselves into the local populace, and remained there. Many of the islanders today have quite dark hair and swarthy skin. Daniel O Donnell was born on Owey Island.

Speaking of Donegal, and to get back to topic, I saw on the main RTE news last night how the Lonely Planet guide put down Bundoran in Donegal.

Saw that. It claimed it was litter strewn, and tacky. In fairness, Bundoran has had this reputation for years. It was refuted by a local Hotelier, who said "you could eat your breakfast off Bundoran's Main Street" Yeah, if you like piss, and broken teeth.
Great place for a shag, though.

Yes indeed I remember that. I was in that bar at the time and I remember it well. In fact if I recall correctly the place erupted in applause. And afterwards all the IRA people in the bar went on a rampage through the village taunting and attacking Protestants while saying the rosary at them.

I can also recall some years ago sitting in a college restaurant (I can't disclose the college or the year) and it came on the radio that there had some IRA atrocity or other (Again I can't disclose which one or when or any precise details) and some guy erupted in a bout of cheers.

The college or the year is very relevant, do you not think. I said it was Dublin in the 1980's, can you not be more specific on your incident ?

As regards the particular IRA atrocity, is the precise details or atrocity relevant, if a couple of jerks commented within your earshot on how great it was to see another black prod UDR man or RUC man or whatever gone ? There were hundreds of such attacks, you know.
