    In many places, people do.

For instance in Finland, you can opt in to a small additional levy by ticking a box on your tax return

You seem to see tax as some sort of force of nature, to be avoided. Can you see it as the money we all club together to make the society we want?

he pays tax, as do all the other members. they pay more tax each year than you will pay in your life, I'd wager.
But that not the point is it.

The point is he has no interest in sharing the burden of welfare or hospital cost in Ireland for poeple worse off then himself.
Time for the Irish Goverment to do the honorable thing and go. If thay have any honour left.

really, does that tax in Finland go somewhere specific?

on your second point. we make our decisions about tax collectively as well. if we want to decide to reform our tax system to say tax people based on citizenship or tax them on the earnings of companies they own we can do that. but as individuals, yes we all try to minimise our own tax bill as it is the logical thing to do.

i will give you an example....ask 20 people the following two questions; did you agree with the SSIA scheme? did you partake in it? see what the answers are like.

you aren't Bono by any chance are you.

Edit- I also made the provision that I would agree with the principle of the tax. I don't agree with the principle of much that FF do.

    how do you know?

Bono to my knowledge is tax resident in Ireland and as such I would expect that he pays huge amounts of tax here.

it is up to governments to regulate taxes, they do this individually and collectively.
How can the Irish govt regulate Dutch taxes? (and yes, before you ask, I do have a problem with Ireland's low corporate tax!)

And i think the greater point is that the tax system is there to help the rich avoid tax altogether or make in minimal. There are about 4406 people in Ireland with non-resident status. 440 of them are the super rich.

through bilateral agreements. governments negotiate double tax treaties with each other. this way they agree what should be taxed in each country.
