The shares were bought in July.

Cowen met Anglo execs at a private dinner at a hotel on Thursday April 24. This meeting did take place, along with Fintan Drury. This is confirmed by the Indo article last week.

On Sunday, April 27 2008, Senator Ross wrote an article about a "recent" meeting between Anglo execs, who were organising the purchase of the €500m in shares.

What is being asked is, were these two meetings the same meeting?

Well yeh, but we're talking Fianna Fail here. That level of Corrupt is ok, not a sacking offence.

They already told the oireachtas there wasn't a run on the bank...

I'm not sure they were, but it's clear that if there were two separate meetings Cowen's would have been the later of the two.

Either way, I believe he was briefed on the proposed share dealing plan at the time.

If they weren't the same meeting, then it was clear this idea was being discussed at the time.

    18/02/09:
"Taoiseach Brian Cowen has admitted that he knew nearly a year ago about moves within Anglo Irish on contracts for difference held by the tycoon Sean Quinn.

He said had been briefed on the matter at the time by the Financial Regulator in his capacity as Minister for Finance about a "developing situation" in relation to the contracts.
He said, however, that the regulator had received legal advice from Anglo's advisors that the distribution of the shares to a group of businessmen was a legal transaction and that was accepted at the time.

Business World, live news from Ireland, plus Irish archive, lists, companies information

He had been advised of the "developing situation" in March by the Regulator so one would assume the subject would have come up in an April meeting with Anglo. It's not too clear from the link above whether he was advised of the proposed distribution of shares in March or July. In the interest of fairness to Cowen, it could be assumed that he accepted the assurance from the Regulator that all was above board and didn't ask for any details.
