Do you really think an organisation such as RTE who think that pat kenny is worth 800,000 euro can count?

Gardaí say an estimated 50,000 people have turned out for the protest, which started at Parnell Square at 2pm.

yea if a mod would change the title, that'd be great! but were they being deliberately low in the original estimation? coz their estimation and the times one was only a few minutes apart and both were AFTER it had started! i somehow doubt 40,000 people arrived "late"!

the protest will be 20/30 thousand people down due to the '' Joe Factor ''

Mr Duffy mustered up much support for the over 70's protest but THIS issue didn't quite catch his imagination.

It's amazing how ''passive'' and border line -right wing-, he becomes when people start to protest against high salaries.

Only Bertie comes even close to his amazing ability to talk out of 4 sides of his mouth and please the masses.

Caller - ''ehhhhh you rang me Joe!''
Joe - '' Yea but you rang us last year about a slightly connected issue so we rang you back today to enable us to push our agenda ''
Caller - ''ok Uncle Joe here's my problem
    Joe - '' go on . . .

Even 50,000 must be disappointing considering all the huffing and puffing from David Begg, Jack O'Connor, and the like. They can dress it up whatever way they like, but in comparison with the Irish Ferries march, this has turned out to be an absolute flop with the private-sector workers in this country. Even within the public-sector, it is clear there is division on this matter. The govt remains unpopular but in PR terms, their hand in imposing the cuts has been strengthened in the overall scheme of things. IMPACT, SIPTU et al. have been hoist on their own petard, and that can only be a good thing.

I just read the running commentary on Indy media. It contains this gem of hyperbole:

13:16 - 300 strong Waterford Crystal block have marched up. Standing ovation from public.
Standing ovation...!?!? This is a march... not a sit-in... weren't these people standing anyway?

    another RTE update:

Union leaders are estimating 100,000 people turned out for the march, while gardaí say they believe the figure to be between 70,000 to 80,000.

This is a joke...if there were 100,000, then 90,000 people didnt just arrive late! what is RTE's agenda with this drib and drab reporting?

    Its a shambles
