ITV News loses battle of the 24 Hour News Channels

ITV is to finally close its struggling news channel next month, the broadcaster has confirmed today.

The decision is the result of a "strategic review" planning the future of the network's news output for the next five years.

The station has been backed by a budget of £3.5 million and, although it has achieved acclaim in recent months, has failed to deliver respectable audiences and is forecast to continue its loss-making trend for several years.

I never noticed much of a difference between it and Sky News. All the same, it's always sad to see another news outlet (and perspective) go.

Too much annoying advertising. I found the channel intensely irritating, especially, as for some years it was compulsory viewing in the NTL EPG.

I feel kinda bad now. I only got digital recently, but I never really gave ITV News a chance. I had Sky and BBC, what use did I have for it? But now look what my ignorance has done-I've killed it!

Must admit, I never watched it either. I always watch Sky, unfortunately I don't get Fox News.

I think BBC News channel is better but I certainly preferred ITN's channel to Sky News. It offended my intelligence less.
