Is the ESB not forced to make a profit by overcharging its customers by the regulator in order to encourage competition? (no really, WTF?) But instead of investing the €440m profit into sustainable energy sources, the Green Minister put €300m back into the public coffers and reduced all bills (regardless of ability to pay or efficiency) with the balance. It appears to be the worst of left and right wing ballsology, with little Green input on reform of the ESB to show for it.

(See also Dublin Bus which is laying off the newest, youngest and lowest paid drivers it just trained in in order to protect its existing staff - including the 100 conductors it still has).

We need a reformation in the public services. They are they to provide a service not a salary. They are there for the public not the servants.

But this is not the fault of the workers - this is a cowardly and useless management accross the public sector, backed up (or abdicated responsibility) of spineless governments.

Make it illegal for ESB workers to go on strike and bring them back to reality.

Of course ESB is profitable - monopolies tend to be. That it is profitable and is forcing us to pay the second-highest electricity prices in the EU and using the proceeds to pay its staff an average €75,000 per annum with this increase is a scandal. We are being held to ransom.
