    "Ireland's National Music Park".

    "Dear Maurice,
Thank you for your email suggesting the Iveagh Gardens as a music park. It is a splendid idea and certainly should not be difficult to achieve given that the park will be opened up to the public as part of the redevelopment for the National Concert Hall.

I will certainly do what I can to support the idea.
    Kind regards,

The Music park would generate employement for Artists. Caretakers, guides, journalists etc.

The idea is already appearing on google.com

Oh, well if it's appearing on google. That makes all the difference, I'm sure. Meanwhile, we have a recession on, and if you want a nonsensical park for Elvis and Beethoven I'm sure your garden will have to do, because the response each and every time you've raised this has been:

Not an Elvis Park this time. That already in exists in Tupelo Mississippi

Try to pay attention in class.

I am getting a lot of feeback by email from Politicians, Musicians and other interested folk. This thread has more than 50 hits already, although the Title is self explanatory for those not interested.

    No! Minister.

    "QUESTION NO: *174
DÁIL QUESTION addressed to the Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Dr. Martin Mansergh, TD
    by Deputy Mary Upton
for WRITTEN ANSWER on Tuesday, 10th February, 2009.
    * To ask the Minister for Finance his views on a proposal (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
    - Mary Upton TD
    REPLY.
The Iveagh Gardens were laid out as exhibition gardens during the 19th Century, with many unusual and unique garden features such as the Maze, Rosarium, Cascade, the Grottos and the Sunken Archery Grounds. On account of its designation as a National Historic Garden, its size and the fact that it is designed primarily for passive recreation, it is not appropriate that the Gardens should be designated as a National Music Park. However, as in the past, the Gardens will continue to host suitable music events from time to time."

The Minister fails to mention the fine bronze statue of John McCormack unveiled in the Iveagh Gardens just last year!
Also the Comedy events which take place in the Gardens.

There is plenty of space for music related sculpture around the perimeter of the Gardens which would not interfere at all with the rest of the landscape layout.

Should I give up? or take to the barricades!
