"Snobs" to blame for Ballsbridge development failure!! - Sean Dunne

    Get this!

Billionaire property tycoon Seán Dunne, who lives in an enormous mansion with a fleet of expensive cars and an equally expensive beautiful trophy wife, has said that "snobs" are to blame for the failure of his multi-million euro money-making scheme in Ballsbridge.

Salt-of-the-earth Dunne (55), who devotes a frugal working-class life trying to boost our banana republic's flagging economy, has launched a series of stinging attacks on all-and-sundry today.

    IrishTimes.com

"At the oral appeal a lot of people and some of the residents referred to themselves as 'people of means'. So I think there is a snobbish element with Ballsbridge, about Ballsbridge.

Speaking on the Lunchtime with Eamon Keane show on Newstalk, Mr Dunne said the planning process "brought out I suppose to a certain extent the worst of the local residents and councillors working in tandem and fighting against me on the project".
Mr. Dunne saves particular venom for his old pal, Lucinda Creighton TD:

Mr Dunne was also critical of Fine Gael TD for Dublin South East, Lucinda Creighton, who, according to Mr Keane, had described An Bord Pleanála's ruling as "a great day for Ireland".
"If that's her opinion, it's a sad reflection on Fine Gael as a party. I would hope it's not the policy of the leader of Fine Gael but if it is they might come out and confirm it."

He is correct. He was willing to provide thousands of jobs. That indicates a concern for the wider community. In contrast, a snobbish element care more about what they call "the view/character of the area" - going as far as to regard this as more important than the livelihoods of the working-class. Dunne mentioned that some objectors described themselves as being 'of means', which underlines the truth of what he said. Shame on FG for pandering to the snobbish element. If we don't build upwards, we will have to build outwards, resulting in more Carrickmines-style disputes.

To an extent, he is perfectly right

Simply because he may be wealthy himself, and he may be a complete snob eve, though he doesn't strike me as such, doesn't change the fact, that a large part of some peoples objection to the development, was in fact, pure snobbery

he's right though. as the bloke who came on newstalk after him from ringsend pointed out. none of the people decrying dunne objected to the dogs mess that was made of that part of dublin 4.

this is the dee furs in action, as can be seen by the complete rejection of the scheme. i dont think ive ever seen THAT before . usually you get sent away to modify your plans till it becomes acceptable.

how come the whole things been shot down?

Yeah, and I'm sure the thought of having a 37-storey tower overlooking their homes had no impact on their judgment.

    Pure snobbery I tell ya.

they had the guys who objected to this build on newstalk yesterday talking about "the destruction of ballsbridge"

exactly HOW does a 37 story tower achieve that?

if anything would got shot down it wouldve been that tower so what you wouldve got was a residential /embassy/ retail area of about six buildings at most .

    not exactly dresden is it?

there is the definete stench of snobbery behind this. i might think dunne was a fool for putting all his eggs in one basked in this build but he hasnt been shot down on architectural or enviromental grounds and it wouldve provided 5 thousand jobs after the construction was finished

but the men of means didnt want 7yrs of development on their door steps.
