    Iran ups the stakes?

Ahead of the forthcoming decision on whether Iran should be refered to the UN SC, it would appear that the Iranian parliament has voted to deny the UN the right to make short notice inspections of nuclear sites if sanctions are imposed.

    Not good news.

I am confused. I read on another site that the US had tacitly accepted a Russian plan to allow the Iranians to continue their programme on a site supervised by the Russians and the Russians would monitor it to ensure it was purely for peaceful energy generation.

Interesting too that there has been a purge by the new government of the diplomatic, judicial and political apparatus. All this reported in the Guardian on Friday.

The removal of the main Iranian negotiators with the Europeans on the nuclear issue by the government has also raised question marks as to their seriousness.

Apparently even within the conservative clerical circles there is some unease over the new adminstration.

One wonders where the Iranian ambassador to Ireland sits in all of this, consdiering the allegations levelled against him.

    Much obliged!

Now that I think of it I seem to recall there was some reference to this in the Guardian, but I can't remember was it directly linked to the on-going purges in Tehran. Any thoughts?
