Statement on murder of Russian Anti-Fascist

Statement on murder of Russian Anti-Fascist
    18/11/2005

The Republican Socialist Youth Movement condemns unreservedly the savage murder of twenty year old Russian Anti-Fascist Timur Kacharava by Russian Nazis on the evening of November 13. Timur and a friend were standing in the street when they were set upon by a Nazi gang, Timur died after being stabbed multiple times in the neck. His friend survived the attack but is still in hospital, despite being stabbed five times.

Timur was active in the Russian punk community, playing lead guitarist for the band ‘Sandinista!’, he was active in the anarchist circles and was involved in active confrontation with Nazis on the streets as well as the Food Not Bombs project.

We call upon all Anti-Fascists and leftists both at home and abroad to maintain vigilance and to unite and organise in opposition to Fascism which ultimately must be smashed through a broad campaign headed by the working class.

Why do the minority parties always make statement on obscure things that most Irish people know nothing about, or get lost in history and never talk about CURRENT, IRISH events??

Are they actually 'Nazis' ie followers of Adolf Hitler, or just extreme Russian right wingers?

Catalpa, there is a large neo-nazi element within Russia's degenerate youth culture. They do Hitler salutes, sport swastikas, shave their heads, etc., all without irony. It wouldn't surprise me if they were behind this attack.

That said, I also agree in wondering why the IRSM spends so much time on foreign affairs. I'm all for internationalism, but from your press statements, one could almost get the impression you've given up on Ireland.

    Or the other way round.

Yeah, but as someone familiar with the far left in England and Canada, I take a lack of popular support as a given. Judging from the videos of their parades and marching bands, the IRSP seem to have more working-class support than just about any other far-left group I've encountered (unless one counts George Galloway's "RESPECT Coalition" as left-wing).

We're usually attacked for being too nationalist, now we're too internationalist.

It's hardly an "attack." But haven't you heard the slogan "think globally, act locally"? I imagine, for instance, the fact that the IRSP calls for "victory to insurgent Iraq" means very little to the Irish unemployed and Irish workers.

"gladstone" if you care to research this, the IRSP do indeed comment and work on current irish affairs. This sickens me, so many people are quick to condemn the IRSP without having any clue of the community work we do. Have a wee browse there on www.irsm.org/irsp then tell me we dont comment on current affairs

I know. I can recall off the top of my head several statements recently pertaining to the Irish working class - a statement supporting the water campaign and a statement highlighting the case of a polish worker in Derry(?) injured on the job.
