The Obama Transition Team, a Pentagon Hacker and a Five Day Countdown

Tuesday the 20th of January 2009 marks the handover from the most
unpopular US President to The Barack Obama Team. There is a transition
group whom have been busily dominating the media and well, they are
contactable:Change.gov: The Obama-Biden Transition Team | Contact the Transition

Interestingly the handover marks for a youngish guy his last chance
to get a judicial review of his extradition for hacking the US Military
Mainframe. (lots of support there):Free Gary McKinnon - or at least try him in the UK

During these five days the family are having difficulties dealing with
his health condition, he has Asphergers syndrome and is afraid of Gitmo.
Today there will be a press conference in Doughty's chambers
which will update media on the struggle to have Gary freed from
the mental and physical pressures of fighting this case, with small
funding and huge support. I have carried the links on my blog
for quite a period and cannot really contribute any cash but have
followed this story since the beginning. He wants to stand trial
in the UK and to be near his family. On the subject of GITMO,
Obama wishes to close it but that has been a moveable feast.

Interestingly Brown has not been as vocal on the special relationship
between the US/K on this issue and indeed seems to bend over
backward to refuse knowledge of disablility issues.(sorely amazed)

Todays press conference will be addressed by Gary's mum Janis Sharpe
and he will be in attendance. I will link in Media/You Tube on here.

So he pulls a sicky and should be exempt from any responsibiltiy for his crime? Sorry, I think this guy should go to jail. There is nothing exceptional about this case and cetainly no grounds to dismiss it. The UK is allied to the US. A UK citizen deliberatly targeting the security of a UK ally is surely not acceptable. But my main concern is the perception that Hacking does no harm. The fact is he was caught before he could do real harm (or he seems to have been) , and given the scale access he had to US computers, there was a strong possibility of wrong serious wrong doing or the potential for it.

There is also the issue of data privacy. All our information is stored on computers and alot of that on government computers is of a highly sensitive nature. That it is okay for someone to muck about with that or access it just because they can is unaccaptable. If this clown walks its a green light for every script monkey on the web to create havoc.

We might also consider that fact that yet again White Collar crime is expected to be treated differantly. Nothing he has done, or the alledged innocence of it, has been examined in a court of law and all efforts to let him escaping justice seem to be designed to keep it that way. We have only his word for it that he was innocuous. And he word is good because? He is physicaly sick? US prisons provide more than adaquate health care - good luck to him there.

I am wondering now about how many susceptible, or disabled have been
through the US military grind. I just added in a link to Lynndie England
on another thread. Her sexual abuse and humiliation of prisoners in
Abu Ghraib was due to her susceptibility to influence. (she claims)

I don't think you/either of us know enough about Asphergers, torture or fear to really
comment on the issue- which is why I linked into the family campaign.
It's square peg in a round hole stuff- the weaker or 'different' are
bullied cos their brains don't conform to how we like to socially project
our banality and acceptance of issues that we should actually consider protesting.

The DPP has contacted the family of Mc Kinnon to say that it will take 40 days to go
through the confession, thus they may apply for an extension on the 20th of January
on this basis at the oral Judicial review.

This will be difficult. If they allowed the three wanted bankers to be extradited to the US, it is hard to see a different outcome here.

l have just read that Gary Mc Kinnon has been granted a full judicial review of the extradition orders on the basis of failure by the Home Secretary to give full consideration to his health condition. Free Gary McKinnon - or at least try him in the UK

Gary McKinnon believes in little green men – but it doesn't make him a terrorist - Telegraph

This extract from The Telegraph is also blogged in the Guardian O+A section today,
indeed it was sent via Guardian.
