Probably not too many. Even the aforementioned chips were probably made in a fab in Taiwan and just assembled here. My point was, however, that with proper direction there is no reason why we shouldn't have similar industries domestically sourced here in Ireland. That "proper direction" has been sorely lacking in the history of the state doesn't mean we have anything intrinsic to the country that forbids such enterprise.

We have solutions to all problems...the right decisions in life right across all sectors are always the hardest. Im troubled by the complete lack of leadership that has become so evident, yes i agree its not proactive to be moaning and whinging about the obvioius, but we dont have any plans, we are dealing with people who are in reactive mode always, there are too many public scandles to absorb. Someone was saying the other day that our hospital (adminstaff) carparks are empty at 4.30 every day and yet the doctors and nurses are working double shifts to keep the pissed and drugged up mortals alive in emergency wards, oh yes there are the really sick and injured in those places also to be looked after. Solutions have been bantered about for the past few years..yet the ship continues to sink. Where pretell are are going to get the social welfare monies to pay all the poor workers from the Dells who are forced into our dole ques. House prices are gonna get slammed in the next couple of years..no stamp duty, little return on VAT receipts from a weakened construction industry, banks are crippled and credit ratings are in the red with world banks, the Anglo Irish scam has really put a cat among the pidgeons with inter bank lending to Irish banks...so when you say will someone do something...where is the loot and working capital gonna come from...it aint there and with a government having to pump in zillions to keep banks afloat...its feeding the problem..and making it worse. Markets can only sort this mess out..and that will mean big casualities right across all sectors...brace yourselves lads and lassies...

At least they have a product that countries in colder climates can't grow.

What can Ireland grow, that other countries can't? What can Ireland produce, that other countries can't?
Oh they can indeed. There are varities that grom in the foothills of the himalayas. You just might have given us a route out of this mess.
