Breaking News - Equality Authority CEO Quits

It has just been relayed to me that Nial Crowley, the Equality Authority CEO, has resigned.

The resignation comes in the aftermath of a meeting between the Authority and The Department of Justice yesterday, where, reportedly, the Authority were told in no uncertain terms that the slashing of their budget by 43% would not be reversed or ameliorated.

Does not appear to have reached the news-wires yet.

Brilliant! They're a do nothing quango anyway. Slash the budget by another few percent.

I'm no fan of the EA but for someone to resign on a point of principle. In Ireland! Respect to Mr Crowley. Now run for election and peruse your political agenda through political means.

Sure why not, don't women get equal pay, all sexualities have marriage rights, the old never feel forgotten, Travellers are never demeaned, no children are in poverty, religious entities don't own all the schools, Eastern European workers are always treated equally, etc ...

The EA does nothing! If it did you wouldn't have a case to argue.

    Delightful.

Anyone who comes on here asserting the EA does nothing is overwhelmingly likely to be a well-off, well-educated, settled, white male of Irish nationality who is unlikely to face discrimination throughout his entire life and who if he does is educated enough to know his rights and well able to afford to engage a good solicitor to fight his corner for him. He is also likely to be a myopic, self-centred a*hole with emotional problems...

Gosh, the man's only resigned a few minutes and already people are being pigeon-holed and stereotyped. How will the Republic survive?
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

Can we not close them down completly? These kind of quangos are luxuries that we can no longer afford.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.
