property developers scot free, public sector and the rest of us paying the big price

Most views seem to suggest that the public sector is a HUGE parasite. But what about all those who contributed to this mess?

Developers in their 4 x 4s, holding on to land banks, building shoeboxes for the masses, and by their scaremongering (get on the ladder NOW!), have got the ordinary Joe and Jane in a right bind. Not to mention a dire Government who based their tax base on construction. It was so productive... yeah right.

Look, I am sick and tired of the fact that these yokes (developers) have not had any flack as far as I can see. All I can see is vitriol against the public sector and nothing against those who both benefited from the boom, and contributed in no small measure to its demise.

The whole economy is in dire straits as a result of their profligacy. Yes, I know, some bought into it, but subliminally the message was, if you don't do it now, you will never be able to do it. And who won? In the short term we know who...

So has Country Tom gagged the media or what? Does anyone really want to know the real story? Anyone.........

I agree. A surprising amount of people do seem to be directing their anger at the symptoms (high public sector pay paid for by the stamp duty bonanza) rather than the source of the problem (ridiculous property prices). Until civil servants go on strike about pay cuts/ a pay freeze, the anger directed at them seems a bit premature to me..If a pay freeze/consolidation of staff goes through I don't see how its fair to scapegoat them.
Maybe people are embarrased that they bought into it and just want to block their feelings about it out? Maybe if it was easier to walk away from a mortgage here we'd have more people speaking out against the developers? Perhaps another reason is the fact that many high profile journalists are fairly old and are unlikely to have been first time buyers at the height of the bubble, so they haven't personally been affected by it. Much of that generation than dominate the media have profited enormously from the bubble. They've been able to pay off their mortgages early, rent out second homes, sell them off at a profit etc

Our politics is dominated by two corporate parties. They are hardly going to critise their own economics and policies for this mess. Instead they will attack the working class in a desperate attempt to recover their falling profits by making us work longer and for less pay.
