A number of those facing dismissal have actually accumulated enough service to be made permanent and one of them has worked seven years for FÁS, but management seems intent on disregarding even the statutory rights of these workers.

This is terrible. how many of those jobs could have been saved and funded from the money spent on first class flights and fancy meals.

Well is clear that the PR budget of FAS has been cut cos announcing these job losses in the same week as the reveations of their top man and his lifestyle gives fuel to the fire that is FAS.

It might be wiser if the government targetted budget cuts in the area of entertainment and lifestyle while also not payin out golden goodbyes to people who resign.

Really, I hope FG dont mess this chance up.

If these temps have been with FAS for a number of years, they might fall under the protection of the EC Temp Workers Directive. ie 4 temp contracts in succession means the employee is permanent. Of course, the spirit of that directive has been broken by many employers who employ temps sucessively but with a week or month off between contracts. (e.g 4 11 month contracts are not considered successive wheras 4 12 month contracts are). the EU gives us rights and time and time again, employers and OUR government find ways to circumvent those rights. The Irish government like to call it flexibility.

If we werent in the EU, we wouldnt have many of the rights we have today.

A workers rep is on Drivetime now - seems management are being uncommunicative. I wonder why?

According to RTE 6.01 news FAS spent €38,000 on airline tickets which were not used because they took the government jet instead.

The good news is that the tickets were refundable. The bad news is that FAS forgot to ask for their (sorry, our) money back.

if molloy resigned then why the severance? its not like he was fired or made redundant.
if he resigns with reputation intact, then its a voluntary resignation. if i hand in my notice to resign from my employer can i expect 2 years salary.
is he being fired, if so then on what basis, if bringing agency into disrepute then this should be breach of contract (it is on mine) in which case no severance should be paid.
if being made redundant, then i presume no "CEO" will be appointed in his stead, if so then not being made redundant. whole thing stinks of buy-off by cowen and FF.

the other poor employees are being made redundant so are entitled to a pay-off.

Yup, heard that. It shows almost too perfectly how reckless these bastards were/are with our money.

And my question is this: at what point does "reckless" become criminal? How long can incompetence or stupidity be accepted as an excuse?

I understand where you are coming from on this, but really, the incompetence and stupidity of the electorate for voting for this rubbish 3 elections running must also be highlighted. This recklessness/criminality has been endorsed by the Irish people repeatedly at the polls. There is unfortunately no getting away from that fact.

Who is actually in charge of these payouts to useless executives who don't do their job properly? I just don't understand why whoever is in charge of these remunerations can't just say - hold on a minute now......
