I reckon there's something far more worrying about PPPs

They are essentially the public equivalent of the financial instruments that got the banking system into such a mess. It's not that it's about some conspiracy to have the public pay extra for assets (we would have to do that if we borrowed for investment too), they're designed to keep liabilities off the balance sheet. But eventually, whether it's an old-fashioned debt or a PPP, the money has to be paid.
