and not ban air pistols becuase they are designed not to kill. air guns are not lethal.
A powerful air-gun firing .22 slugs would certainly do you a bit of no good, particularly on the head. What does Minister mean by "small bore" ? Are .22 handguns to be banned ?

getting hit in the head with a discus or shotput would do you no good either, fancy banning them too?

.22 will not kill you, the shot is too light and the muzzle velocity too slow. it'll hurt, but i'd rather be hit by that than a hammer or javelin.

by all means ban all non-sporting pistols, but leave sporting pistols alone (with current controls).

Handguns should be banned. There is no need for anyone to be in possession of such a high calibre gun, none what so ever.

Private citizens in possession of handguns can only be trouble.

Your analogy is quite ridiculous in that the discus is hardly likely to be aimed at you.
p.s. I am not calling for bans.

air pistols can barely break skin at approx 10m. they are not high calibre nor dangerous (relative to rally driving, rugby, hurling, football etc)

You are so incensed about all this that you can't even discern when another poster actually shares most of your views. Signed: Trampas - ex. FCA. (crack shot !)

Actually, mine is designed to blow a lead pellet into the center of a paper target ten metres away (granted, with the ulterior motive of allowing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to embarrass the United States of America in an international sporting event, but still).

(And yeah, "blow". It's an air pistol, there's no gunpowder involved, just a fancy bicycle pump type arrangement).

actually i don't own a pistol but an air rifle, and am pissed that it is licenced the same as a .22 rifle (real gunpowder variety)! this encroaching on licencing laws irritates the libertarian in me. in every feckin way the govts response is to issue more legislation more rules more red tape.
