Perhaps like an embassy burning its papers before the declaration of war, what was being burned under Bertie's car was a bundle of brown envelopes to symbolise the idea that FF were no longer essential?

Maybe that was part of the shakedown intimidation effort

But seriously if I was Bertie I'd be heading for exile in South America on the basis of these polls.

Jesus, so it wasn't a one week medical card blip then. Hmmm, this could be interesting.

FF have greviously wounded their loyal grey vote ,they may never get their support back.

They can "push for an election" all they like, but until they can get sufficient backbenchers or the Greens to switch sides in a Dail vote, they won't get one. That's politics.

By the way, I can confirm those poll figures from my own sources.

Since there is a concenus that these results are official, here are my thoughts:

This is another fabulous result for Fine Gael, it is quite clear that the people want change, and not only the people need change as this government has run out of ideas, it is a dead government.

The people want Enda Kenny as Taoiseach and if these opinion poll results hold, he will be swept to power. Fianna Fail and the Greens are going to be spending a long time on opposition benches for years to come.

Fine Gael are the party with fresh ideas, Fine Gael has the drive, the enthusiam and the courage to make tough decsions that will make a real change, Fine Gael walks the walk, unlike Flip Flop and the Greens who are about to be incinerated who just talk the talk.

Great Ceasar's ghost, this is a milestone in our political history. But its only consequence is that the Government TDs will be too fearful about the seat's security for any Behan/McDaid type antics.
