UK teachers seek right to forcibly restrain students

An education behaviour task force in the UK has recommended that new legislation be enacted that would "reaffirm teachers' right to restrain pupils using reasonable force" and make "clear the overall right to discipline students." Should similar legislation be introduced here?

In my opinion these recommendations should be ignored.

You've obviously never done any teaching. Teachers need to have clearer guidelines and rights when it comes to enforcing discipline and controlling classes, which ultimately is better for everyone concerned. The idea that even if a student is being violently disruptive in class and endangering the safety of his fellow students he still can't be restrained by a teacher is totally ridiculous.

if teachers want the right to restrain students if nessesary then i think students should have the right to restrain teachers if nesserary, could be a way to stop right getting abused.

Perhaps if your teacher was allowed to restrain you you might have learnt how to spell properly.

Something needs to be done to help teachers in the classroom. I know a few people who have given up teaching because it is literally a nightmare. Pupils have no respect for their teachers. Some form of discipline is needed.

It is. Happily, this isn't really the case.

And yes, the recommendations should be dismissed.
