Dail business suspended two days in a row due to lack of Gov business

Despite the Government only sitting for 7 weeks so far this year, Dail business was suspended for an hour today and half an hour yesterday as the Government failed to provide enough business for the Dail to address.

David Stanton, Fine Gael Spokesperson for Dail reform, is clearly livid.

“In a time of economic crisis, health service scandals, education cutbacks and the highest unemployment rate in more than 10 years, it is simply inconceivable that elected representatives should be left by this Government with nothing to debate in the Dáil.

“Dáil time is both valuable and scarce. When the legislation programme for the Autumn Dáil session was published, there were 16 Bills currently at various stages on the Dáil Order Paper. In addition to these Bills, there were a further 19 awaiting publication with numerous others expected to be published in 2009 or later.

“The Government said that they were providing a robust programme of legislation but this simply isn’t the case.

“The second suspension of the Dáil due to lack of legislation in two days clearly highlights the chronic need for Dáil reform. Despite Fine Gael having published a lengthy brief of measures to reform the Dáil, the Government is still failing to put any concrete proposals forward.”

Factories and businesses up and down the country are cutting staff hours and having temporary closures due to lack of orders.
In the same vein, and to show their Patriotism, will this be TD's two day break be unpaid?

And this just 24 hours after Cowen told the Dáil that he couldn't be sure when the Civil Partnersnip Bill would be brought before the Dáil.

Why don't the Green lemons at Cabinet suggest that, ya know, maybe……they could discuss that, perhaps?

It is just clear evidence that FF don't have a clue what they are doing, they have no ideas, no solutions, this government is dead and a change is needed.

    Pfff...

You'd think in these times they'd be meeting as often as possible to try and find ways to resolve some of these issues, especially since FF are responsible for a lot of the current mess...

    What a bunch of cretins.

Even FFers must be feeling some small feelings of guilt and shame at this stage.

Here's a radical thought. Why don't FG, Lab and SF withdraw from the Dail and set up shop across the road, where they can start seriously discussing the problems of the country and what solutions might be possible. Ignore the FF morons, simply state "this Government has lost the authority to govern, so until they find it in themselves to do the right thing and resign, we're going to start preparing to clean up their mess"

Isn't having those feelings a bar to membership?

The Greens need to pull out and give the people a general election, if they don't the can be assured that that they'll suffer the same fate as FF.
