You say it like it's a small thing.

    That's a load of cr@p.

According to the media, anyone who earns less than 70k a year is 'vulnerable'.

'Vulnerable' in my book is a single parent trying to raise 3 kids in a tenement in Dublin city centre, or a retired farmer living alone in rural Ireland on €200 a week.

It isn't a an ex-Civil Servant with a nice house in Foxrock and a €40k pension, or a 6 year old being ferried to and from school in a 08 BMW X5.
A demagogue is someone who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots.

I agree - FG are stone jealous that FF have been in power for so much of the last 70 years. FG have only managed to pick up the few slops that FF have dropped when sticking their heads into the trough. There's a big difference between having a little power on a council and having a lot of power in government (especially when it comes to the size of the brown envelopes).

Yet, if you observe FF and FG when they interact, you'll find it is the FFer who is more likely to have a chip on his or her shoulder.

I've yet to meet an FGer with an inferiority complex.

I would suggest that very few ex-civil servants would ahve 40K a year pension - and even fewer who live in Foxrock.

I do agree with the second part though.

But what was the original threshold? That's the one that revealed their initial, true intentions. They only backed down when they realised they weren't going to get away with it. Anyways, the fact that they went after the elderly at all first as opposed to tackling the public sector or the builders or extracting a higher insurance premium from banks showed their wickedness.

Scatter-gun budget, aimed purely at making a quick buck and bailing out cronies, instead of restoring competitveness, miding the vulnerable, enhancing infrastructure and presenting a long-term stategic plan.

Well, this isn't massively surprising. Labour should be delighted. They've been really active on this issue, and aside from a few stupid comments, have been really doing well.

As for Fine Gael, it'll be interesting to see how much of that vote they can hold on to. Without meaning to spoil the party, I wonder how heartening it is for FG members to experience such a poll rise not on the basis of anything they've done, but instead on the basis of FF's screwups.

    Oppositions don't win elections.

agreed. this is the perfect time for FG to really hammer FF in both holding them accountable plus offering the alternative. people are dying for this, plus FF need a right kick in the bollocks for the years of terrible terrible governing. the greens will need to grow balls or they'll suffer like the pds
