Even when Labour were on 19% in the 1992 election, they only got 33 seats, so predictions of them getting 30 are fanciful.

I agree, Taoiseach..........................very very fanciful. In fact, their alliance could cost Labour dearly.

How can teaming up with FG hurt Labour? If they don't they won't get transfers from FG and if they went in with FF, a number of their supporters would desert to other parties. And running an independent campagn won't work as the whole election would then be focused on which way would Labour jump.

The ideologies of the 2 parties are poles apart and I believe that Labour will suffer from this coalition. The left wing part will join SF and SF will definitely attract a lot Labour's first preference votes. While Labour will get more transfers from FG the loss of core votes will be vital. This is my penny worth. The winners SF and losers Labour due to their coalition pact..

Labour would just be FG's mudguard in government.
