Taoiseach appoints Corrigan to NESF

Brian Cowen has today appointed Sen. Maria Corrigan to the National Economic and Social Forum (NESF).

Does this guarantee that Maria Corrigan will stand aside in favour of Shay Brennan in the Dublin South by-election and will this appointment ensure her support for Shay at convention. Looks like Cowen learnt a trick or two from Bertie.

It's not likely that her influence in DS CDC is that significant. Really, she only has a handful of supporters in the constituency, and barely any of them are delegates to the CDC. She was added to the ticket for both of the last elections, as she would never have won at convention.

If Shay Brennan nominates for the election, and wins, then the next general will be her last chance. That is if Fiona O'Malley isn't on the ticket. Judging by her performance to date, she will have to improve considerably to beat Brennan and Laharte.
