Read it this morning - sounds fair enough to me.
He wants it donated to old age groups for parties, and charities for raffles, etc.
Cant see a problem.
Especially if it brings in the votes .... though it's a bit early to be trying to buy off voters!

I read somewhere they used to give confiscated fags to the mental hospitals. Maybe they still do.

On one hand I can see the point of this, but on the other, its a little condescending really. Shag all services, but here's a bottle of stout while you wait for your hip operation. Actually, heres several bottles, it could be a while.

I happen to know that a lot of the alcohol confiscated by so-called security agents at Dublin Airport goes into their own stomachs, or is sold for money which goes into these people's pockets.
The amazing thing is that they take the alcohol from travellers on the grounds that it might be dangerous, but they have no hesitation about slugging it themselves!

Interesting, seems sensible enough. I saw that clip where I think DCC was holding confiscated drinks taken by Gardai and they were disposing of it which seemed to me to be a complete waste of valuable drinks. Obviously it would be questionable to re-sell it as a fund raising exercise, but diverting it to community groups would be a good idea, especially for things like raffles etc.
Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.
I used to have to deal with customs quite a bit in a previous role and all I can say is that I wouldnt trust them as far as I can throw them - nasty, spiteful and they have no problem abusing their authority when it suits.Originally Posted by twtone

What do they do with the millions and millions of seized cigarretes? I know my pensioned Ma would appreciate a few packs.
