Economic crisis - is it time for a national government?

With the economy and public finances going into meltdown, is the time right to disolve the cuurent government and establish a National governement that will combine the best of all parties to get the country out of the current mess?

Given the figures issued today, we are looking into an abyss.

You're suggesting the modern equivalent of dissolving government to install a benevolent protector of the nation in wartime.

You are also assuming that your new government has the competence and the intention to "get the country out of this mess".

I fear you are advocating a FDR-style New Deal (you know, a National Recovery Association (NRA)). We know how that turned out.

*cough* we already have the best of all parties around the Cabinet Table

Given the figures issued today, we are looking into an abyss.

Forget it - there is no need for a "national government" - we are not at war or under threat of extinction or anything for gods sake.

FF and the PD(s) were well capable of taking all the credit for the boom - told us all that they were the steady hands for the economy going thru turbulent times and that us Feckers in FG would ruin the economy thru tax and spend etc etc.

Well myself and the rest of blueshirt brigade are just going to break out the beer and popcorn , take our seats in heckling pit and look on with great interest!

I doubt that is the reaction of the typical FGer.

We are all fecked when the government starts slashing health expenditure.

True. The average blueshirt probably feels like smashing his head off a wall. For years Richard Bruton has been on about competitiveness and public sector reform, budget speech after budget speech, and was told to take the proverbial hike by FF ministers. Now those same ministers on talking about competiveness being the number one priority as if it only suddenly become a problem.

Isn't that what FG and Labour have been doing for the last 10 years?

    Well it should be! -

Ok - well not expressed as flippantly as above obviously

Why do you think they are attacking us over the economy - even tho we are in opposition?

Its the blame game baby - and Im fecked if Im going on a kamikaze mission to bale those chancers out again

it would be the same result as always - FF get the plaudits and we get the brickbats for havin the temerity to tell them what to do and all the needed cutbacks would be our fault

Time to develop a pair White horse - FG have to stop being so fecking nice - lets consistently tell them what they should be doing and keep telling the electorate in a clear concise and consistent line what we would be doing and the great things we will do for them when we get back in - which hopefully will be just the right timing for a change after having forced FF to do the dirty work and clean up the mess of their own making.

BTW - the health service in Ireland is a mess will always be a mess and if you realised anything from the last election when we (FG) made it our numero uno issue - the voter really couldnt give a monkeys - everybodys knows its a mess, why its a mess and knows not even Jesus Christ,Allah and all the Hindu godheads acting in unison would be able to sort it out.

With respect, there is no way the Labour Party would have ever let Richard do anything substantial on Public Sector Reform.
