Does anybody know what developments are in question?
Very very rare to see Ff complaining about planning issues....

It's a first to see them complaining that the planning strategy has been ignored!Originally Posted by digoutday

well if I thought mr gormley was capable of acting on anything (and I don't) I'd suspect some green fingers have been messing about with the LAP... and the maFFia aren't liking it..Originally Posted by digoutday

Fianna Fail are only complaining because their developer friend is not getting to build 2500 houses.
From the article the developer has bought land that he thought would be rezoned residential, but is now to be open space/commercial. 150 acres of sheds and fields instead of houses. My heart bleeds.
If the FF and FG councillors are so worried about it they can vote to reject the Local Area Plan and force council staff to begin again. Councillors can then make submissions (like any member of the public) or motions to get zoned residential. Alternatively the can seek a variation in County Development Plan to change the zoning.
Due process is so frustrating. The days of nudge, nudge, wink, wink, brown envelope were so much easier.
Agree - the obviously friendly journalist writes, totally uncritically that, "Developers and councillors often work together to deliver common objectives and sources close to Doyle claimed he had been given verbal assurances by planners that the land would be zoned residential, in line with the planning strategy." It says it all really - why is there a formal zoning process if planners know before the outcome what the results will be?Originally Posted by fatcat

This will be interesting, seeing as so many FFers are against the tribunal, is this not a major double standard is they want this investigated??

I was told that there is something rotten going on in Meath. These words came from a Fianna Fail TD. I am in a left wing party. I wasn't sure if he was tipping me off with something to drive at, but he suggested that something is rotten. We didn't have time to go into specifics. I believe there is a story but there needs to be some digging.
Interesting stuff about this on a site called eastmeath.org - they claim that the proposal to build the new Drog. United Stadium on the site, along with a huge residential and commercial development on the edge of the M1 (which has now not been permitted under the new LAP) was a "cleverly designed" "PR strategy to ignite emotional repsonses in the public and to make it virtually impossible for any politician to criticise or question the development."
They argue that the proposal is completely unsustainable and contrary to all planning guidelines and policy. Reasons for this include: a) the site is in the middle of nowhere and will only be accessible by car - b)will add a third, unnecessary shopping centre to the edge of the M1 and will draw business and people away from town centres including Drogheda itself and c) adds to the residential sprawl across Meath that again means higher car dependency, less community and efficiency. oh and d) isn't the optimal one for a new stadium due to the lack of public transport to the site and its location so far outside Drogheda.
So basically, the original proposal (which was only approved in theory - ie. the building of a new stadium) was unnecessarily tied to a major residential and commercial development that went against all recognised planning guidelines. And therefore was deemed unsuitable when the Local Area Plan was drawn up after an extensive consultation period.
And this is what Dick Roche is asking to be 'formally investigated'...
FF stink.
Who is the developer?

The developer is Dublin based Bill Doyle, he has multi-million developments all over the shop, Portlaoise, Carrickmines, Dunlaoghire as well as this proposed development.

I doubt whether Doyle will bring it tho, he's no Gilmartin.
Definitely one to watch![]()
