Kenny snubs the Rossport 5, Durkan booed

Any of our FG friends like to explain why FG leader, and MAYO TD, turned down an invitation to show solidarity with the Rossport 5 at todays march ?

And why, after all the support given to there campaign by FG, Endas bag-boy, Bernard Durkan was roundly booed when he spoke on stage.

I thought FG were at the forefront of this camapign.

"Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny turned down an invitation to join the protest march. His party colleague Bernard Durkan, Mayo TD, took to the stage but was roundly booed and jeered by the crowd.

Mr Durkan claimed his party leader had stood by the Rossport Five over the last three months, but his words were drowned out by the noisy protesters
    ."

Don't forget to add to that thread title "rainbow in tatters"

And is there even the teeniest chance that some of those doing the booing are not very pro-FG anyhow and may even - perish the thought - be members of Sinn Fein?

It was widespread throughout the crowd, Durkan was booed from start to finish. Cries of shame rang out at him.

David Begg was not to poupoular either.

They were in contempt of court and that's one side of the story. The other is that the protests were hijacked by 'we'll be ************************************ if we'll do anything elected officials are supposed to do but protesting, that's a different matter' SF. I supported much of the campaign to have the men released but I would never stand in behind a RSF banner the opportunistic nuts (same applys to USI protests) so I don't blame anyone for steering clear of this whole debacle

    "Snubs"?!

Other things to do, maybe. I'm sure plenty of politicians - though no FF or PD - were invited and, for one reason or another, may not have been able to attend. So? Was Adams there, for example, or did he too "snub" the protest?

Good. Martin. I am glad that SF was there from the start. But the struggle is not over yet. The 5 know who their friends are and are not..........no matter what is said on this site.

So you consider this protest a debacle? It makes no difference WHO supported their protest, or what party if any they came from. Those who did support a just case ................... virtually all of Ireland knows that.
