Equality Authority staff won't go northside-snobbery?

According to the Irish Times, those bastions of right-on political correctness, the staff of the Equality Authority, are resisting plans to move them from the Southside of Dublin across the Liffey.

We're not talking about major distances here - from D2 to D1.

What could possibly be motivating the mung-bean eaters' unease? Surely they are not worried about having to work beside the large numbers of immigrant-ownes businesses and residences in the north inner city?

They are merely adhering to the south facing sign on O'Connell bridge that says, "Do not cross if you think Ross O'Carroll Kelly is not taking the pi$$"

    Where are they now?

Dublin 2 is just better, no matter how you wanna spin it every single one of you would rather walk out onto Baggot Street or Stephen's Green at lunchtime than Abbey St or Eden Quay. And the pubs are way better, bigger and plentiful, as are the clubs. Simple. If i was ever in that position I'd resist. Even northsiders would agree.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

They are currently a stones throw from Stephen's Green.

I read this. It really is amazing. They dont want to decentralise (I dont blame them - it's a stupid idea to do it for service providers), but now they won't even move northside!!! Amazing! So much for "equality". What spurious reasons have they given, do we know ?

My understanding is that that the OPW plan to move some staff that are due to be decentralised out of the D2 offices to the D1 offices temporarily, pending the move (to Roscrea...or is it Templemore?).

Understandably enough, the staff that are going to be moved out of Dublin altogether in 12 or 18 months time do not want the bother of another move in the meantime.

All this decentralisation malarkey is obviously causing chaos in this, as in many other deprtments.

You forget that not one member of the present Equality Authority staff are moving. The only ones already decentralised are ones that joined directly in Roscrea or wherever.

Civil Servants, which these people are, join on the basis that they are either Dublin based or country based. They dont have a choice where in the city they are. Nor should they.

I believe several of the longer-term staffers them HAVE moved (the ones with their eye on promotion perhaps?)

However you are correct that most of them in Roscrea are new to the job there.

But most of the staff left in Dublin are due to move eventually, or if they want to stay in Dublin move out of the Authority.

I would say the middle management are more opposed to this than anyone else - they are seeing their staff split in two locations, most of the old stagers are moving out, and the few that are left are meant to be training up recruits and moving their office (temporaily!) at the same time.

    They probably see chaos ahead.

By the way, I am sure most of the more junior frontline staff could not give a toss where the office is being moved - as you say, many of them are moving to some other department (God knows where, but somewhere in Dublin) over the next year or so anyway.
