Assassination attempt on Palestinian in Dublin

It seems there was an assassination attempt on a Palestinian militant living in Dublin.
    http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340 ... 91,00.html

A Palestinian from Gaza and a Moroccan were arrested by Gardai and yet Palestinian sources in Ireland are trying to say Mossad were involved in this assassination attempt. Now if Mossad wanted this militant dead, he'd be dead, but how on earth did this Palestinian militant get clearance to live in Ireland? What were the Irish authorities thinking of when they gave permission for someone like this Palestinian to live here

It's difficult to know what to make of this. Has the incident been reported by domestic media?

You are the one who posted the article, you should read it before you do. It states that he is an EU citizen. Therefore he benefits from free movement and does not have to seek permission to live in Ireland.

There could possibly be an issue if Ireland felt there were overriding security concerns for the State but presumably they were unaware of this. I would have thought Israeli agents with guns posed a much greater security threat.

Besides which, why isn't this in the Irish media?

No, it states that the Palestinian arrested, in connection with the shooting, had EU citizenship. It says nothing about the Palestinian militant who was shot at in Dublin being an EU citizen.

And it does seem odd that the Irish media haven't reported this

Would like to know this as well, especially as I know nothing about ynetnews. They could be equivalent to National Enquirer, An Phoblacht, or even the Evening Herald !

It would appear that this was on foot of an EU brokered deal back in 2002, which got extensive media coverage at the time.
The European Union has reached an agreement on the distribution across Europe of 13 exiled Palestinian militants. [snip]

The EU offered to take the militants into exile to end the stand-off between the Israeli army and the Palestinians at the church. The deal was supported by the United States and the Vatican.

EU foreign ministers have decided that none of the 13 should face arrest, and they have received assurances from Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres that Israel will not seek their extradition. ....
The arrival here of the two people Ireland agreed to take as part of this deal was reported by RTE at the time.
Two Palestinian militants invited to take up temporary residence in Ireland after the Israeli siege of Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity arrived in Dublin earlier.

The two men were met at Dublin Airport by armed detectives upon their arrival from Madrid. They were driven away from the airport immediately.

The two are believed to be Jihad Jaara and Rami al-Kamel from Bethlehem. Both are believed to be members of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, which is an offshoot of Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction. One of the men is said to be a senior member of the group.

Gardaí have refused to say where they were taken. It is understood that they will initially be accommodated in a safe house with Garda protection.
Hence, it would appear that more than the Irish authorities felt this to be an appropriate course of action. That's not to say its right or wrong - simply that you have to illustrate that the EU collectively and several of its Member States individually were wrong to make this deal, despite the support of the US, Vatican and Israel.

It might be noted that the shooting incident referred to in the thread title does not seem to have been picked up by any mainstream news source.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

YNet is very unraliable. Very agendaistic. Very pro-Likud and liable to see terrorists under the bed.
