Going according to precedence, there is always another wing to re-stylise themselves after ten years or so, and go on to cause mayhem. The IRA sporadically disappears and them after a decade of decline, pops its ugly green head back in. Just look at the last century.

Also, in the end of all things, have they achieved their objectives? Is Ireland, united, socialist and free?

Yes I think so. But try telling Paisley that...

He's now trying to pick holes in yesterday's momentous statement by John de Chastelain, by questioning the reliability of the British security-forces' estimates of the PIRA arsenal. Presumably, he will want the inventory to be published (de Chastelain has it but has said the agreement with the PIRA won't be published until after Loyalist decommissioning), so he can then compare with the security-forces' estimates.

If the inventory indicates a lower number of weapons decommissioned than the estimates would suggest the PIRA had, then he will probably say "oh this proves the PIRA has more", whereas if the numbers decommissioned are higher than the estimates, they will probably say "Oh see the estimates underestimated the numbers of arms the PIRA had, therefore they have more...".

I hope he will eventually run out of excuses. But it seems to me he is perfectly inventive at creating an ever-expanding list of preconditions.

I voted Yes, both in hope and expectation.

We can only hope really. But there is really only one group of people who know for sure.
