Another Councillor steps down from DCC

I have just heard that Councillor Mick Rafferty has announced his resignation from the City Council.
Mick was an Independent Councillor for the North Inner City and was to my mind one of those who made a substantial contribution to the work of the Council and the wellbeing of the City. I am sorry to see him go.

Mick is part of Tony's organisation, isn't he? I can't imagine this is anything to do with any concern about defending the seat as with the expansion from 5/6 it would be more straightforward to hold than usual. I guess it's a case of one more person who has found the gap between the job a person can realistically do and what the public have come to expect is too great for someone to bridge. I think it is interesting given the other thread about what are TDs supposed to do that there is such a disconnect between what a councillor is supposedly elected to do and what they end up having to do in order to get and stay elected. I'm shocked we don't have more people who think that elected reps are supposed to heal the sick.
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

Interesting, as many saw him has Gregory's annointed successor when he was first elected to DCC. With Gregory not standing and there being no heir apparent in place, Bertie not standing again, Joe Costello potentially going off to Europe and Cyprian Brady (corrected) depending on lesss that 1k of first preferences, we could have a clean sweep of new TDs in DC.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.
