    how do the government cutbacks affect your locality?

    some infrastructure projects will face the chop;
    how will this affect your local area?
    my town, tuam, is set to lose a by-pass and a link road to the galway-athlone stretch of the western motorway;
    the new rail link will also be axed;
    funding for the newly merged boys secondary schools has been withheld;
    a new water and sewage scheme for the town faces the chop;
    so to does the plan to open an ambulance base in the local 'shut-down' hospital;
    industrial grade broadband is again deferred;
    and this is in regard to a so-called 'hub' town!
    in addition, the nearby village of claregalway (most bottlenecked village in the country) is also expected to lose a by-pass;
    and all of the above is just for starters!
    i hope those of you who acquired major infrastructure improvements during the 'good times' realise how fortunate you are;
    our politicians in galway east and west have again failed us;
    sure whats new about that?

    I would describe that as modest pain. Nothing compared to the closing of The Ranch House.

    As expected, the eff effers have targeted the poor with the cutbacks and left their dig-out and whip-a-round chums untouched. This is, of course, par for the course with Cowering Cowen and Langer Lenihan and the rest of the FF Gombeens. Their chums have stashed 1200 billion euro away in foreign land and buildings, an act of national treason that the FFers totally conspired in. As most of this loot has been swindled out of ordinary young people trying to put a roof over their heads, would it be too much to ask Cowering Cowen to claw back some of these ill-gotten gains from his chums? I expect he would sh1t in his pants at the very thought. Much better to kick the poor. So, I guess there is one location that wont come under much pressure from Fianna Fail, and thats the cosy planet their dig-out chums live on.

    Probably not just in my area, but there is massive cutbacks in the area of education for persons with special needs.

    It's a disgrace that the govt always target the most vulnerable in society.

    since my first dail vote in an 1982 by-election, i have resided in three different constituencies;
    throughout that period ff, labour, and independent have all received number ones from my wife and i and, more recently, our children;
    fg, pd and greens may also have received the odd lower preference vote from me but i can't recollect;
    for the past decade or so i would vote for the devil before i'd vote for ff;
    i am a socialist at heart and don't begrudge others what they receive;
    i just want my entitlement and fair play;
    i won't hold my breath in expectation of receiving either;
    hope that answers your question.

    Fully. I have managed since 1982 to never give a single preference to FF or SF. And I see no reason to start soon. FG, PD, Lab, indos.... mind, most of them were flings I regret now.

    Decentralisation is dead..

    Great..
    So, I bought a house close to where+ my department was moving to, sold the old. Used the excess cash to ourchase things for the house that i cou;dn't previously afford.

    Now the decentralisation is off, and the house price is collapsing.. great

    Cancelled By-passes and broadband implementations are targeting the poor? You must live in a nice area.

    I thought that they weren't really going to cut anything from the NDP?
    I feel as though I've really missed some vital news...
    How much are they cutting? I just did a google news search, and the only things that really came up just talked about how the NDP still remains a priority etc etc.
