the dail passes new liquor bill

the dail has passed the new intoxicating liquer bill which among other things gives the power of on the spot fines for drinking on street to gardai and ends the loophole of the theater liscensce nightclubs used essentianlly meaning 1am closing on a sunday night, to which certain clubs (i missed it sorry, could be lillies could not !) have said they wont bother opening at all on now and that every pub will pretty much close at same time.

the bill goes to the president tomorrow. got this off newstalk news just now.

    so......

how much of an INCREASE in anti social behaviour and arrests for public order offences do you reckon will result from this?

i personally reckon a good 10% within the first couple of weeks.

PS if this is in the wrong place shift it but honesntly didnt know if it should be in current affairs, culture, or justice as it fits all three !

I wonder do they even talk at cabinet meetings? or do they have a pre-set list of actions to take for every circumstance, because they've tried the "reduce the opening hours" around a dozen times now..

Well I'm certain not many Gardai will welcome the idea of all the drunks spilling out into the streets at the same time!

They are privately horrified at the idea but the new and exceedingly thick minister for Justice (in attitude, not brains) would not budge. Lenihan, to give him his due, would have listened to advice. Ahern has the sensitivity of a bulldozer. I hope none of you guys hope to be going out on Sundays much, as nightclubs will have to close at 1am!!!

And last orders on Saturdays will be 2.30am with everyone having to leave the pub immediately (ie, no drinking up time). So book your taxis well in advance or prepare for a long walk home.

So those young tikes instead of having to get their tinnies 10.50 will no longer be able after 10. Ha! that will teach them.

Beat that logic young scoundrils. How will you get around that?
