Could a new euro referendum tear the country apart?

Folks please dont turn this into a debate on lisbon. I am noting how the no side prevailed in working class areas and rural areas and the yes side prevailed in middle class dublin (+ commuter belt). This shows we are fractured along class lines re europe. If there is lisbon + a few trinkets or an "in or out" next year it would expose the same fracture perhaps in a much more bitter and divisive way. So in short could it tear the country apart possibly even resulting in violence?
Again please dont turn this thread into a lisbon debate!

It won't result in violence and I don't an "in or out" referendum - in the literal and legal sense - as likely. It will be a referendum on the treaty but not on "in or out". I also believe the next referendum will continue to show the class-divide of Lisbon I.

Well i would hope it wouldnt reach violence but i had a very nasty experience where i was called an anti-semite while campaigning and someone shouted in my face. I wasnt surprised though given the constant aggressive tone of many on the yes side especially those who should have known better. I admit there may have been similar experiences for yes campaigners. It has to be an "in or out" as the risk of a 2nd no are too great for lisbon2 (see my thread on europe forum). Presenting such a divisive question could be dangerous.

Absolutly right. They do that in Northern Ireland and they have a wonderful society.

there might be violence on fora, questions and answers and on the radio but that would be about it.
it will definitely be an 'in or out' vote this time.

Sinn Féin would campaign for a NO and be the only party to do so and this would be good for Sinn Féin's prominence in the media battle.
