Latest poll from the Irish Times/TNS MRBI

Latest poll from the Irish Times/TNS MRBI shows a 2% improvement in Fianna Fail’s standing to 34%. Fine Gael 25%, Labour 14%(both unchanged) Sinn Fein down 1 to 10%, Greens up 1 to 5%, PDs unchanged at 4%.
58% are dissatisfied with the government (up 7%)

FG & Lab not making much progress. Have the figured out yet that it's not enough to be 'Not Fianna Fail'. I'm going to end up voting Lab by default, rather then having a positive reason.

FG+Lab+GP = 44%. FF+PD = 38%. Result could be a lot better but it shows there's definitely scope for a change. The rainbow needs to be more aggressive in it's campaigning.

Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.

FF + Lab not going to happen, absolutely zero chance. Ditto FF + FG. FF + SF interesting possiblility, wouldn't rule it out.

When you consider that the TNS poll generally under-estimates FG by about 3%, it brings FG closer to the magic 28-30% present range.

Do you really think that FF Labour coalition is impossible?

What if a ‘German’ situation was to occur at the next election, with the Dail hung between the two present possible governments? If Labour’s only route to power was through FF, then do you not think that they’d dump Pat Rabbitte, and the rest of the Democratic Left wing, and go with FF?
Personally I think that it would be a disaster for Labour, unless they’d manage to get health and childcare right. In a FF Labour coalition, if FF have any sense, they’d hand Health straight over to Labour.

Take it from me, the vast majority of labour members (whatever about the TDs) would find it very hard to stay members of the party if Rabbitte or anyone else took them into government with FF. It would cause deep divisions within the rank and file and possibly even a split. Most labour members despise FF with a passion not found among the membership of other parties.
As regards "dumping" the DL wing, they're the ones who run the show now so if anyone will be dumping people it will be them.

The only barrier to a FF/Lab coalition is Pat Rabbitte, and the Party will ditch him liked a used snot-rag if Labour don't pick up any extra seats in 2007.

More generally, this poll just tells us what we know to be true but seem incapable of changing: the electorate's obstinance in refusing to understand that FF and FG are in effect the same party blurs any sort of meaningful political debate, with the result that political support remains largely inert.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.
