    Indonesia 'facing bird flu epidemic'

    Folks this could be IT!

See Guardian web Site for details....

Worrying thing is these are unexplained deaths, not linked to known contact with infected birds.

Now I hope you all kept the face masks you bought at the time of the SARS outbreak?

    Oh Dear!

    From the article.

The children - girls aged five and two - had shown symptoms of the disease, but health officials said they were still waiting for test results to confirm the causes of death.
Quick everybody - down to the shelters. Bring plenty of canned foods and bottled water. Apparently, this may be IT!

So we don't have to do anything about the meltdown in Siberia, Himalayas and the Arctic, the floods and droughts, the hurricanes, the loss of soil carbon, the ozone holes blah blah blah after all?

    The world's problems are solved.

Well, the prospect of a global epidemic as potentially lethal as the Spanish Flu of 1918 would seem to demand a certain degree more urgency in terms of a response, no?

Well, in theory and hopefully in practice, yes. But my unabated cynicism tells me it also depends upon who's going to die. If it can be contained within Indonesia, who cares?

The problem with pandemics is that by definition they cannot be contained.

OMG, you mean their illness may not be caused by bird flu?...

Ireland interests are best secured within a more dynamic EU. Vote YES to Lisbon.
