Film Hunger wins Sydney Film Festival Prize.

Film Hunger wins Sydney Film festival Prize.

Following on from critical acclaim received at Cannes, the movie of Bobby Sands and the Hunger Strike has gained future awards.

Choosing a winner has been a challenging decision because the competition presented such a strong and diverse selection of films. However, our final decision was unanimous. The inaugural Sydney Film Prize is awarded to Steve McQueen's Hunger.

"Hunger was selected for its controlled clarity of vision, its extraordinary detail and bravery, the dedication of its cast and the power and resonance of its humanity," said Armstrong

Trailer for the film can be seen at http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=VS7Vt1vWjPE

Does the reporting of this film by the in stream press in the UK etc mean that the view of the struggle in the Maze is changing?

Wait for RDE and Harris to denounce "Hunger" without even watching it first...

I remember listening to RDE and TPC on Radio Ulster arguing with each other over The Wind That Shakes the Barley when it first came out. RDE was raging about it, disparaging it all through her time on air. Finally, TPC asked her if she'd actually seen it, to which RDE replied, "Well, no, but..."

    Oh how I laughed.

That one near the shops is good, near that old mans house with the grey hair, round the corner from the market.

This film isnt about the struggle, its about what a man goes through on hunger strike what it does to his body and how it effects people around him.
The film is sympathetic to the guards in cases and it is more about Sands' deterioration than the republican cause.
It will be brutally honest in this depiction, vomiting blood halucinating etc.
The realism is why it has won awards, at times it will be very hard to even watch the actor who slimmed down to play the role.
