Five new Ministers of State named

    From RTE.ie

Taoiseach Brian Cowen has appointed five new faces to his junior ministerial team.

Peter Power of Limerick East takes on responsibility for Overseas Aid.
John Moloney of Laois Offaly goes to Equality and Disability.
Michael Finneran of Roscommon South Leitrim will be Minister for Housing.
Martin Mansergh of Tipperary South takes on responsibility for the Office of Public Works.
Dublin Mid-West's John Curran becomes Minister for Drugs.

Three Junior Ministers have lost their positions - Pat the Cope Gallagher of Donegal South West; Michael Ahern of Cork East; and John Browne of Wexford.

Last week, Barry Andrews was promoted to Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, with a seat at the Cabinet table, as was Chief Whip Pat Carey, replacing Tom Kitt, who has returned to the backbenches.

This is so typical of FF. Wexford looked over for a place in the Cabinet and now even in the junior ministries. We can have our revenge in a months time.

People are entitled to vote whatever way they want for whatever reasons. My main reasons relate to Lisbon itself, but this is an ancillary reason.

I'm not. Politicians are not like hospitals. They don't take years to construct. They already exist. It won't break the bank to have one Wexford person in the Cabinet or in a junior ministry.

I'm disappointed that he kept the number at 20. There doesn't need to be that many. Also, if there's going to be any daycent public sector reform, symbolic gestures are required.

Indeed, if Cowan was committed to public sector reform, cutting the number of junior ministers to 15 would have sent a powerful message.

Alas, all the indications are that Cowan in nowt but hot air.

Delighted that John Brown has been demoted, not on a personal level of course, he’s an ok guy (for a FF politician). But whatever absolute, remote chance FF ever had (and it would be so remote, that it would be almost off the radar.) of getting 3 seats in Wexford is now well and truly scuppered.
