    Money seized in Limerick raids

    Massive raid in LImerick

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0508/limerick.html

The offices of a number of solicitors and accountants were among over 150 premises searched this morning in a massive garda operation in Limerick........
A huge amount of documentation - including bank details, credit union books and computer equipment - was seized, as well as over €100,000 in euro and sterling denominations.

In unrelated news, Bertie appealed succesfully against having statements made in the Dail which wholly contradict statement made to the Mahon Tribunal referred to.

The criminals are not in a position to deny that some was Sterlng, the preferred currency of criminals.

Glad to see the facilitators of crime being cracked down on. The accountants and solicitors without whom the day to day work of organised crime would be much more difficult should be brought to book if they have willingly aided a criminal in illegal activities.

    Good stuff !

Like the john gilliham in the proceed of crime under the criminal justice act 1997, following the death of Garda Gerry Mcabe and Veronica Geri Journalist that cracked that crime. Hurray.

I'm surprised this hasn't been discussed more here. These were huge raids. They are ongoing today. The gardai were tackling all the criminal ganags operating out of Limerick. Apparently they have uncovered account books for junior saver accounts in various institutions. They were using kids to launder their cash. They were also laundering money through property. They have been frantically trying to offload assets for months since the CAB arrived on the scene.

Are you seriously suggesting that CAB would have carried out this number of raids against solicitors without evidence?

But who has said these raids were directed against the solicitors as opposed to clients of theirs? It is more likely that they were raiding these premises to gather documentation surrounding financial transactions etc of individuals who use those solicitors to build a case. That sort of thing is a normal occurrence

And while your steadfast support for your belief that the Gardai or CAB would only raid a premises once they had evidence of criminal wrongdoing is commendable, it is incredibly naive in the extreme

Re: Money seized in Limerick raids

I hope they throw the book at these criminals. Organized crime is a scourge on both sides of the border in Ireland.
