Pro-olympic demonstration in Dublin's little China

There I was, enjoyin my afternoon coffee by the window, when a great clamour paraded down Parnell street [coughs spluttering coffee]

It appeared a well organized event, about 1,000 - 1,200 strong, with Chinese business people in casual clothes flanking the crowd of mostly male and female youths.

they chanted "CHINA" over and over.

Having lived in the area for nearly a decade I found it remarkable and worthy of its own thread.

Usually the demonstrations in the area are organised in favour or against the Chinese Communist Party. But this afternoon's demo used an English word 'China'.

I checked the media at the time and there was no mention of any scheduled events.
Does anyone know who or what organised it?
    And for that matter, why?

I don't know. Maybe the Chinese embassy encouraged it as good PR?

Presumably the Chinese authorities in Beijing will allow a pro Tibet demonstration in Tiananmen Square.

Nice to see them enjoying the right to parade. Pity the regime they appear to support doesn't permit such freedoms.

No, the Chinese authorities won't allow a pro Tibet demonstration in Tiananmen Square.
The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.
