    Looting?

On the back of the disaster in New Orleans and surrounding areas-

Is it fair game (the loot) or are they fair game (the looters)?
Should they be shot on site?
If you had just lost everything, and werent insured, would your fingers get sticky or trolley get full?

This is a very unfair question WTD.

While I would be the first to admit there is no doubt that a certain amount of looting will be carried out simply to line the pockets of the looters, you need to also realise that looting is going on in order for people to feed themselves.

So fair game they certainly are not. Disgusting comment

No. It belongs to someone who had neither the means nor the time to protect it.

Arrested on sight, yes. What's with this 'shot' business? You must be an American so.

Weren't insured! Gosh, why would I not be insured?

OK, so I can't afford insurance, is that what you mean? You probably wouldn't have much to lose, then, following that logic. If you're simply a cheapskate (as many rich people can be) then you can look after yourself, I don't know, sell a few shares or something, whatever rich people do.

However, as a poorer member of society, I would hope that state institutions and charities might help me get back on my feet.

Get over it, it was a question - governors/mayors are saying that they are taking a very hard line, police on the ground have said they are working under marital law.

Well then why are some running away with new stereos and jewlery? If someones looting a grocery store-OK, if someones looting a PC store-shoot the bastards.

Looters should be shot on sight. Thats a generally accepted fact. The 1916 rebels in fact had to deal with a few looters that way unfortunately. Preying on someones misfortune like that is odious behaviour.

Why shoot them? Why not tell them to go away, or arrest and detain a few of them with the promise of stiff jail sentences to come? It's not as if the flood waters won't ever subside...

Fair enough point, but after a natural catastrophe it may be necessary to send a lesson to those who would casue a breakdown in law and order. Arresting looters although desireable may not be feasible, particularly in floods.
