Fintan O'Toole on Statoil and Corrib

Check out the well written and amusing article by Fintan O'Toole (via the link below) on the Corrib oil debacle. It highlights the ridiculous situation wereby the Irish oil resources of Corrib will be graciously donated to benefit the Norwegian exchequer and "Erik and Elsa Soap in Bergen".

Anyways I suppose it's not as if the Border, Midland and Western region needs any extra support .

And lets not forget that as an extra bonus the exploration companies can recover all of their costs before any tax will be payable. If I was Erik and Elsa I'd be sending a thank you letter to a certain R. Burke.

Then again I'm sure there's arguments to be made for this extraordinary generosity....

Fintan O' Toole on Statoil and the Corrib Gas writing in the D'Olier Street Dame

One of the myths propagated by left-wing agitators is that the development of the Corrib gas field off the Mayo coast will not benefit the ordinary citizen. This is wildly inaccurate, argues Fintan O'Toole.

The truth is that huge profit from the exploitation of this Irish natural resource will flow into the exchequer.

Over the next 15 years or so, hundreds of millions of euro will be generated for the public finances. The money will pay for better health services, for improved education facilities, for the alleviation of poverty, for investment in vital infrastructure. The people of north Mayo may have to endure some environmental degradation and to live with justified anxieties about their own safety. But the lives of millions of ordinary people will be made better as a result.....

One of his best articles to date!

Pity Eddie Hobbs will never get to do a Rip Off Republic special on this topic!

SPN, even though we both emanate from Waterford I have to say that if you believe that wishful thinking you are with the fairies. Time will tell, of course, but Enda's contribution to the situation in Mayo is just what one would expect from a blueshirt.

Inda's contribution if just what you'd expect from a wannabe FFailure - which is where Inda's mind is at the moment. He remembers what Sir AJF did to JB in 1997.

One thing he is NOT is a Blueshirt.

Somehow I'd be surprised if FG will want to shine a light on this particular rip-off.

Hobbs or no Hobbs the oil will be in full flow before any in depth expose of this rip off is produced. The scale of this is up there with the billions wasted on construction overuns highlighted on Prime Time. The same Prime Time investigators should be sent westwards quick pronto to access the future damage.
