    EPA petition

Don't know if this is in line with web etiquette or not, , but I'm posting to inform people the the Green Party is organising a petition seeking to reform the Environmental Protection Agency, which in our opinion is not working properly. This petition is now online on my web site www.danboyle.ie. Maybe the thread might be more in order if people were to express their opinions on whether they think the EPA is working or not?

    No it isn't working, because:

    - Industry are able to lobby the Mandarins through the backdoor

    - The EPA is hamstrung with ineffective rules/processes (from a citizen's perspective)

    - It is seriously underfunded

    - The politicians regard it as a Greenwash exercise (Jaysus, shur we're greyat, didn't we set up the EPA, begob!)

Methinks an Eddie Hobbs like approach to exposing the contradictions and idiosyncracies of the EPA would be a good way to build up support for the petition.

A sustained (weekly) attack on aspects of the EPA in the media - some new topic each week - would help people see it for the farce that it is.
"Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest." Mark Twain

“When a government is dependent upon bankers for money, they and not the leaders of the government control the situation, since the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money has no motherland; financiers are without patriotism and without decency; their sole object is gain.” Napoléon Bonaparte

I thought politics.ie users might be interested in the difference in take up on this issue, and that which can be found on another board www.peoples republic of cork.com. There may be a greater level of local interest in this subject, but while this thread has been four days on politics.ie it has attracted one response and some sixty views, on peoples republic of Cork in a twenty hour period there have been fifty replies and some six hundred views. I suppose it is the difference between local and big picture politics.

Well, the be fair, I think most people on this site would agree with a stronger EPA. Also, it has nothing to do with SF or the IRA, so that would decrease the response rate! I've already signed said petition and agree with your demands, so there's nothing I can contribute other then 'hear hear'

In all fairness much of those replies were rubbish one-liners

As regards the EPA, didn't Cullen appoint a former Indaver employee on to the EPA? There should be a law against that type of corrupt regulation. For how it can be done see http://www.democracyandregulation.com/

Top site all the same. Want to watch the frequency of that animation though could cause an epileptic fit.

Methinks that the average sheep who puts any faith in what EH has to says won't have a bull's notion what the EPA even is, and if they do, would probably suport shutting it down altogether, because its a waste of taxpayers money.
The only way to change the world is to win elections.
