A lot of them in places like Leitrim where most people dont want to live. There are also a lot of those houses where the owner might want to take residency soon. They should work out which are needed and impose a rental order in six months if the houses are not occupied. They could latch a referendum with the abortion one if needed.

There has been pretty much a housing crisis of one sort or another in Ireland for last 20 years. Fintan O' Toole did a good pice on it recently. No doubt poor planning,Developers, Planning corruption all played their part in this perpetual crisis but it didnt start in 2011.

Many voters are absolutely against social housing for spongers. They probably don't deserve HAP either but at least that money goes to decent folk in the end.

FF insisted on raising the HAP rates big time after the last election which caused the rent spike more than anything else. Get your facts straight.

    Landlords?
    Decent folk?
    LOL.

Good to see you admit though that HAP is designed to enrich a certain section of society.

BTW, pet, you do seem very angry.

The problem is, FG very much picked who got into the life boats and who drowned in debt and austerity.

FG's "recovery" is very one sided.
