If you think he was a scumbag in his life, it's a bit dishonest to say otherwise upon his death.

He was on the 1994 edition of Reeling in the Years shown on RTE last Friday evening.
He was pontificating about how GATT/WTO deal signed would transform lives..........for the better.

    I kid you not.

An exceptionally bright and able person who was deeply respected at home, but far more so abroad.
I met him a few times, he was incredibly affable and good fun.
I never worked with him but know two senior Goldman Sachs employees who think the world of him
They said he was the first chairman who would come down to lower floors, walk around, talk to junior employees. In turn you could call up to him and talk, he was very approachable

While a very wealthy man, there can be no doubt the net benefit of what this country derived from him, is massively in the plus column.

The fact that he is loathed by the far right, the racists and those who want to turn us back 60 years should be a source of pride for his family

    RIP

i recall a bonkers radio interview from him. He opined that the biggest problem with third world immigration into Europe was that their wasnt enough of them arriving.

Not a very nice person who had a desire to drive down wages and working conditions for Irish and indeed all European people. His European dream is collapsing and he will have known that in his final days.

His beliefs were seriously detrimental to European self harmony the fact that he was so open about his motives was the most frightening thing.

I never got this thing about atheists saying RIP or may he rest in peace. Surely you believe there is no longer a Peter Sutherland to either rest peacefully or go into torments?
