I think it was more some kind of arsehole boy's own adventure type thing. I'll try and find the article, it did say something about their other tours.

Im not excusing NK, but for heavens sake its a country which has gulags literally miles long, in which entire families have been imprisoned on suspicion, and has kidnapped foreigners to force them to be English teachers etc!

Its not Cuba, where a yank could wangle a Canadian visa, turn up with a bit of Spanish and hard currency and providing she or he didnt act the a-hole, have a lovely time.

    Dont people know these things?

If they do that to high profile foreigners just imagine what they get away with doing to their own people.

Shame on China for propping up that regime.

Indeed Sister, but reality of having a united Korea with undue American influence on its border, means it will not happen given China's present Government and Ideology.

You'd think so, wouldn't you? A lot of Americans seem blithely unaware of much outside their own country. It's shocking that something like this could happen from sheer naivety.

I think Americans vary between those who are overly cautious about furrin climes, (they are all mad over there, Hilda!),some who are terribly concerned not to be "the Ugly American" and read up everything they can to put their best foot forward, harmless souls who wander round, amazed they are out of the US at all, genuine mavericks with a deep interest in the country they are residing in, and utter a-holes.

How someone could be so stunningly naive as to assume you go to NK for sh*ts and giggles is beyond me. Maybe someone dropped him on the head at a much earlier point.
