    Should civil servants defend bertie?

I heard on the news last night that a government spokesperson released a statement saying that there was nothing wrong with the passport issued to Mr. Turner.

Is this government spokesperson a civil servant? If so, should a civil servant be defending the actions of the government?

Civil Servants are meant to be completely apolitical and should stay away from political work, it doesn't always happen though, many do the work of their political masters.

Government spokesmen are appointed from members of the main poltical party in government usually, not the civil service. If a civil servent did make such a statement we would know about it because there would be uproar.

Yeah, the guy who orchestrated the 2-day campaign of attacks on the Tribunal by Cabinet Ministers.

I'd be more worried about members of the Executive denouncing the judiciary than some civil servant doing so

Its a misleading term then? surely it should be reported as " an FF spokesperson said" etc?

Saying there was nothing wrong with the passport issued to Mr. Turner is hardly a political statement. Why would there be something wrong with it?

Aren't FF in government. Wasn't this spokesperson speaking for the government?

Assuming that they are not civil servant I see this as a non issue.
