    report

The link didnt work and I didnt hear the report, but that doesnt matter because I can imagine it, and its scary as f*ck.

If you, like me, are of a nervy disposition, you too should not only be very very frightened at the infestation of foreigners coming into our country, but you should transfer that fear into also getting personally p*ssed off at unsuspecting foreigners that you meet on the street - its easy picking them out...you can spot them a mile away.

And to all those wilfully blind to the problem...just think about what they will do to your daughters....think about it!

We have a potential problem. In appointing Lenihan the Government have shown that they recognise there will be problems down the road if we don’t put in place a reasonably well thought out integration policy in the near future. This approach is something the British, French and other European Governments did not put in place in the early days of their own immigration experience. We’re lucky in that we can learn from the mistakes of others, whether we do or not remains to be seen.

Even those who support immigration are apprehensive. The Irish Times columnist Fintan O'Toole believes passionately that the mass arrival of foreigners has benefited his country. But he acknowledges the potential difficulties ahead.
somewhat confirms that foresight was never a 'liberal' forte.

it's as though these over paid know-alls never considered that there could an economic downturn.

As confirmed on that report "immigration rose faster here in the last 10 years than in did it Britain over the past half century....this is a crisis. With the downturn in the economy coming fast...we are screwed.

BTW Baldur...at most you listened to 9 minutes of it (the report is nearly 20 minutes long) ....look at the timeline of my posts and yours.
My jury is out on whether the type of population change that Ireland has undergone is a bad thing or a good thing. My inkling is that it will have a positive effect but only time will tell. Proper intergration will be the key. While the planning has been mediocre to this point, there is a lot more effort being put into this issue recently.

I've heard enough of Fintan O'Toole for one life time and I've talked to Conor Lenihan about this issue. Neither were going to say anything new so I didn't see the need to listen to them.

O'Toole said it didn't matter because everything Irish came from migration anyway! - "French dancing masters" with Irish dancing and Irish writers going abroad to ply their trade!

Its a point of view, I guess - my, mr O'Toole is well named! .....

Most certainly we are not lucky. We have already made "the mistakes of others" and our position is now irrevocable. We have allowed the Irish Times and RTE to set government policy, a policy that is not dissimilar to an open frontier. This stuff about "integration policy" is a complete red herring. It is simply not possible to integrate an unlimited number of people. Historians will have a field day.

The danger is that if the recession is as bad as the 1980s, then people will not be too bothered about kicking out all those bogus asylum seekers and welfare tourists. It may also lead to the rise of a more extreme right-wing government and electorate.
