Leo at Sea on Morning Ireland

Disappointing performance by Leo Varadker on Morning Ireland. He allowed Minister O'Cuiv change the parameters of the debate on Ministerial pay. Up to now the comparison was with International Political leaders , i.e. Bertie paid more than George Bush. However O'Cuiv skillfully changed the focus on to Ministers getting less than Department Secretary Generals.
    Leo had no response.

Anything this man does gets a response. Brilliant!

That was an extremely classy line by Ó Cuiv. Imagine having to put up with a situation where one is being paid less than the help. The poor ministers.

    Give 'em their dosh.

I think at this stage of the debate on the pay rises we should have a clear statement of an alternative approach by Fine Gael. Would they abolish the review body ? Change its terms of reference to include international comparisons as well as - or instead of private industry?

Its just not good enough to be still winging it at this stage. It is not Leos fault but it is the Front Bench's.

O'Cuiv was very, very good this morning. His constant needles at the RTE senior hierarchy also getting significant raises hit a raw nerve and you could almost hear the producer roaring at Lawlor to close him down when he got onto that point. The point regarding the Secretary Generals was a very good one and you wonder why more play wasn't made of this earlier in the debacle.

Varadkar fought his corner rightly enough given that O'Cuiv totally outflanked him, but there was only one winner and it wasn't Leo.

I listened to Leo on the radio the other day. Am I the only one that thinks he sounds exactly like Bertie? Even has a bit of a stutter.

Isn't it amazing that almost every media appearance by Richard Bruton, Brian Hayes and Leo Varadkar generates a thread on this website from an FFer ?

    Why is that I wonder?
    Any possible theories?
Why are FF so interested in what these people say, I wonder?
