Today, I read in the Mail that the world had ended. Little else could account for devoting whole of the front page to the explanation of how domcracey had foundered on the rock of mob rule. Major highlights from the fiery damnation of all that crawled in Ireland included the revelation that the Garda wanted to question Paul Murphy (about what, I've no idea) and the shocking news that college staff were to tell of their terror (three days after the event).

And there was I thinking the Independent was laugh enough. Lord knows what the Mail would do if there actually was a riot.

They've been put up here. He's clearly identifiable. Haven't heard of any arrests yet.

Twas probably Enda having slipped away from his muzzlers, I mean handlers, and just let his mouth motor with no controls. he does have a habit of using gormless phrases whenever he's speaking without the handlers script.

He has pre-Vatican 2 altar boy written all over him.

Used to mumbling phrases he didn't know the meaning of and no doubt taking the odd clip around the ear when he dropped the collection plate.

Protest, and in particular peaceful protest is often about causing disruption and delay, its part of the strategy, and not one side of the political spectrum could claim otherwise.

    Unions strike to disrupt
    Environmentalists block to disrupt
Citizens blockade to disrupt (look at recent events in Hong Kong)
    Farmers blockade factories to disrupt
Shell to sea blockade to disrupt.
    People boycott to disrupt,

The list is endless, and history records a long and respected list of people and events where the protest aim was to disrupt, obstruct, prevent access, exit, iritate, annoy and pester.

Thats what protest is made up of on many many occasions, so blocking someones car cannot be in any way regarded as kidnap or unlawfull detention. Get a frigging grip!
The "hostage" idea was introduced by Murphy who "negotiated" with Gardai for the "release" of Burton provided certain conditions were met--in this case calling off the Public Order Unit

"If the Public Order Unit is called off, do we let her go?"

The idea of a public representative bargaining to "release" a fellow citizen --or thinking he has a right to do that--is extraordinary

Ah! That was the impression I was trying to think of, well spotted.

A craytur often spotted lurking at the back of a church during Mass, with the hanky out for kneeling on, flat cap scrunched up in the other hand.
At least that's from memory as I haven't been in a church, bar for christenings, weddings or funerals, in quite a while, the flames are too distracting for the congregation.
